WELLINGTON CASE.
ADM [TIED TO PRO BATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. Henry John Westbrooke, who was before the Court yesterday , and was remanded for sentence on tour charges of theft from the Wellington Woollen Company, was to-day admitted to probation, "it was made a special condition during the period, which was fixed at two years, that he should refrain from using his motor-cycle, the cause of his downfall. “As soon as you forget about motorcycles and get down to the saving of the money to make provision as you get on in years for your own home the better it will be for you,” said the Magistrate. , Accused is to make restitution of £4l 19s 9d, the amount involved in the charges. A GISBORNE OFFENCE.
On a charge of attempting to administer chloroform to a girl, to which lie pleaded guilty at Gisborne, Frank Victor Michie, aged 21, labourer, was admitted to probation by Sir Hubert Ostler for two years. He is to pay the costs of the prosecution, £1 ]3s, and refrain from communicating with the girl during the term of probation. , , , Counsel said that there had been no evil intent. The girl had announced her intention of going to a dance alone where prisoner feared she might be maltreated and he had conceived the crazy idea of giving her a fright to prevent her going. Michie had been previously before the Court on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. That was part and parcel of the whole afrair with the girl, and, like the present charge, was indicative of his mentality.
