GOVERNMENT LOANS.
DEMAND ON EXCHANGE. OTHER ISSUES QUIET. Interest in the Wellington stock and share market yesterday, as elsewhere, centred mainly on Government loans which continued in keen demand at rates slightly firmer than those quoted last Friday. Supplies were scarce, there being an almost entire absence of sellers and no business was reported locally. Two small parcels of local body debtentures, including Wellington City, 4i |>er cent., 1-2-1948, sold at firm rates. Bank shares wero dull and tending lower. New Zealand were offering at 39s 9d. Financial shares wero neglected, and insurance issues wero quiet. Meat freezing shares were weak. Now Zealand Refrigerating sold at 17s, buyers staying in at 16s lid and offering 7s 8d for the 10s paid. Wellington Woollen wore firm at 92s for both issues. Bond’s Hosiery wero sought at 16e, a fall of 6d. There was a Ixfltcr inquiry for brewery shares at steady rates. Littlo interest was shown ill other Now Zealand industrial issues. Leading Australians wore quiet and easier, a feature of this section being a sharp fall in Australian Glass which were wanted at £5 4s, as against a sale last week at £5 12a.
