RESPONSE DISAPPOINTING.
BRITAIN'S PEACE EFFORTS. EVENTS SINCE MUNICH. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 19. Mr Oliver Stanley (President of the Board of Trade), in a speech to-day, said that he ’ did not think anyone could be other than disappointed by the course of events since the Munich Agreement. Germany had not been responsive during the past two months, and the people of Britain did not want one-sided promises and onesided agreements. They were prepared to make sacrifices for peace, and he thought others who desired peace should do the same.
“I do not believe any useful purpose cun be served by this country making further concessions unless they are met by concessions on the other side,” said Mr Stanley. Meantime, they had got to be prepared and combine this preparedness with a desire for agreement and the intention to seek peace if peace were possible, concluded the Minister.
