Beautiful weather favoured the opening of the North Island tennis championships, being played in conjunction with the AVairarapa association’s championship and handicap tournament, on the Masterton Club's courts to-day. There were no major surprises. P• Hawksworth, the AVairarapa champion. easily won his singles against M. McLeod, of Martinborough ; MPerkins hail no difficulty in beating A. Mahupnka: and G. S.
