STAND-BY SERVICE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Further interruptions in the supply of power from the State hydro-electric system occurred last evening Irom i o’clock onwards, and though the city siandv-by station at Evans Bay was able to meet the late shopping demand in the city and Hutt Valley the outer areas were without light off and on until about 11.30, when Evans Bay w,ns able gradually to extend the sections in the suburban areas. The mechanicians at the Evans Bay station worked practically straight through from 8 o’clock yesterday morning till 2.30 cf'cloek this morning, and were able to restore the second 7500 k.iv. Velox boiler, so that to-day and ! to-morrow the steam station will he able to carry the full load of tlie city 'and Hutt Valley areas while the laborious work of hand-cleaning the thousands of salt encrusted porcelain insulators on the transmission line from Shannon is prosecuted.
