COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.

MR AND MRS C. L. HUNTER. Under the auspices of the Labour .Representation Committee in the Manawatu electorate, a complimentary social, and dance was tendered to Mr and Mrs_C. L. Hunter in the Drill Hall, Fending, on Wednesday, when there was a large attendance of friends and supporters to show in tangible form their appreciation of the effort Mr Hunter had made in the interests of Labour at the general election. The hall was decorated in colours of green

and gold, while "the supper room was .similarly attended to. Non-dancers were entertained at cards in the supper room, and musical items and a step dance executed by Mr T. Allen were included.

Mr M. Murphy, president of the Manawatu District Trades’ Council, presented Mr Hunter with a well-filled wallet of notes. He said Mr Hunter came from a “fighting” family and during his three years in Parliament as member for the Manawatu he had proved himself as a worker and fighter. Mr Murphy felt tho public had lost a friend who had worked very hard in the interests of the electors, and he hoped that Mr Hunter would again win a seat in the House. In presenting Mr Hunter with the gift Mr Murphy wished both Mr and Mrs Hunter a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Mr Hunter was warmly cheered when lie rose to reply and thanked the speaker and those present for the good wishes and gift. He said he had spent his life in studying world affairs, and had been closely connected with the industrial movements. He was pleased to have been able to serve, and stated that to-day tho people had a Government which understood the people’s needs, and with tho loyal support of the electors the future would be much happier for everyone. Mr Hunter hoped to be present at future functions held in Feilding in tbe interests of Labour. Whatever tbo future held for Mr and Mrs Hunter, they would retain very happy memories of the Manawatu district and the electors..
