MR HAMILTON'S OPINION. “Already the scene is changing—the electors are now being told the true position,” xvrote the Leader of the National Party (Hon. A. Hamilton), apologising for his non-attendance at a gathering in Waimate in honour of Mr D. C. Kidd, member for Waitaki.
“When"the Labour. Government took over control three years ago it found a very satisfactory position. It has since enjoyed a period of high prices, accompanied by a record national income. At the election? the Government was able to present an attractive case. But the scene is changing, and xve of the Opposition can noxv obserx'e xvith interest the course that xvill bo taken to deal with the variety of problems that xvill present themselves. Many of these problems arc of the Government’s oxvn making.” Mr Hamilton added that the concern of the National Party xvas for the welfare and good government of Nexv Zealand. “Our policy,” he stated, “xvill be shaped toward that end; and xve shall hope that nothing xvill be done to impair our standard of living or the good name xve have alxvays enjoyed as air important part of the British Empire.”
