POHANGINA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) • ' POIIANGINA, Dec. 15. On Tuesday evening the annual children s party and Christmas tree, organised by the Pohangina Women's Institute, was held in Pohangina Hall. Airs J. T. Aloar, president of the institute, welcomed the guests and voiced thanks to all who had assisted in organising the function. There was a full attendance of young and old from all i parts of the district. An excellent proI gramme was rendered by tile children as I follows: Pianoforte selection, Alison AVimI sett (Raumai) ; chorus, “Hunting Morn,” Pohangina choir; recitation, “The Owl and the Pussy Cat,” June Edwards and fiernadette Hanlon (Raumai) ; choral speaking, “The Cavalier’s Escape,” Pohangina scholars; dialogue, “The Trials of a Schoolmistress,” Dorothy Joynes and Derek Short (Raumai); choruses “New Year’s Eve” and “Old Black Joe,” Pohangina choir; dialogue, “A N’ordinary Boy,” John and Colleen Leamy (Raumai); playette, “Eldorado,” Dorothy and- Eric lirogden, Natalie Spelman and Belle Claptiam (Awahou); drill, Heather and Alison Stuart, Elbe Port and Gwen Wingate (Mt. Richards); recitation, “Porridge,” Gordon Stuart (Alt. Richards); playette, “Long Pull, Strong Pull,” Peggy Leamy, Marie Hanlon, Brian Kerrigan and l-lector MacDonald (Raumai); play, “The Bishop’s Candlesticks” (Bishop, N. AToar. persome, Ruth Ilarland; convict, Ken AA’agstatf; sergeant, Dick Aloar; gendarmes, Bryan Ilockly and Errol Drummond, (Pohangina). Great was the excitement when after the concert, Father Christmas (Mr A. Balmer) appeared and presented each child with a present a,nd a bag of sweets. A snow ball dance was won by Gwen Adams. After the children’s dances the young' people were entertained to supper while the grown-ups took, the floor. Spirited music for the dances was contributed by Air J. Doekerly and his band, Air D. Turnbull carrying out the duties of M.C.
