BAKING COSTS

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 17. Investigations are now being conducted by the Government through the Department of Industries and Commerce into the costs of baking and supplying bread in Auckland. Bakers expect that, as a result of the inquiry, either the price of bread will be advanced or the rates paid by them' to the State for flour will be lowered, any resulting deficit being met from the Consolidated Fund. They base their expectation on rises in manufacturing costs since the price of bread was last fixed by the Government. Bakers have been required to produce figures on various aspects of their businesses, and officers of the department are now engaged in checking this information by inspections of the books of those concerned.
