NORTH AFRICA
ITALIAN COLONISATION, UoNDON, Oct. 13. Headed by the Governor, General Balbo, in a flagship, a fleet of 26 emigrant ships will leave Genoa on October 18 for Libya. They will take 18,000 peasants and their families, who will develop Italy’s North African colony. The emigrants, who are drawn from all parts of Italy, include 1800 families in which on an average there are nine children. The migration is part of Signor Mussolini’s plan to develop Italian North Africa by the mass movement of 500,000 farmers and their families, who will settle on small holdings in the four provinces of Tripolitania. This is only the first detachment and a regular emigration service is to continue until the figure of 500,000 is reached. In some parts collective farms will be established as part of the military organisation.
Since the above was written the first batch of colonists have sailed.
