MOTOR FAILS
CLIPPER IN DANGER. FORCED LANDING AVERTED. ARRIVAL A WEEK LATE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received October 20, 10.45 a.m. HONOLULU, Oct. 19. Pan-American Airways’ Philippine Clipper arrived to-day, nearly a week late after averting a forced landing in the approximate area in which the Hawaii Clipper disappeared in July. The passengers showed no signs of panic. The ’plane dropped from 8500 ft to 100 ft, and one motor failed. The pilot calmly righted the craft and used the three remaining motors.
