BADMINTON

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Sept. 1. An excellent standard of play was reached when the Dominion A and B grade badminton championships were commenced last evening. In the men’s A grado singles the title-holder (P. Hawksworth, Masterton) played fully up to expectations. R. Lewis (AVaikato and Auckland champion) was also in fine form and beat Hall (Hawke’s Bay) in straight H. H. Fow (Hamilton), G. Pearce (Wellington), and M. T. Wilson (Auckland) were others who survived the first round'. There were no surprises in the women’s A grade singles, Miss Kerr (Dunedin), Mrs P. Hawksworth (AVairarapa), and Miss Edmondson (Hamilton) all winning their matches. The brightest badminton in the men’s- doubles, and the best match, was seen when R. and J. Lewis beat G. Dunn and Payton.
