£500,000 FOR BOY SCOUTS.

An unusual feature of a banquet which was given by Lord Baden-Powell at Grosvenor House, London, recently, was that the host, now in his eightysecond year, being unable to attend, telephoned his speech from Ins home in Hampshire and it was relayed through loud-speakers to the 400 guests as- ■ semblecl in the banqueting hall. H Jt.H. the Duke of Kent was the guest of honour at the banquet, the object of which was to arouse increased interest in the movement to raise a fund of £500,000 for the Boy Scouts. One of the speakers was Lord Nuffield, who had promised a donation of £30.000 subject to certain conditions, which on this occasion he withdrew.
