AUSTRALIAN TOUR.

THE SUSSEX MATCH. VISITORS SCORE 336. LONDON, Aug. 27. Fine stands by Hassett and Brown were features of the cricket match between Sussex and Australia, which began in calm and sunny weather today. Australia won the toss. The teams are : Sussex. —Holmes, Stainton, John Langridge, Parks, Janies Langridge, Bartlett, Cox, H. E. Hammond, W. Cornford, Wood, J. Cornford.

Australia. —Badcock, AValker, Hassett, Barnes, McCabe, Barnett, Brown, Waite, White, Ward, McCormick. The Australians started quietly. Walker was at the crease for 35 minutes. Badcock failed to get over a ball from the medium-pace left-hander Wood, and was caught in the gully. Hassett found the wicket to his liking and drove and pulled stylishly. McCabe fell cheaply. He has often fallen lately through apparent carelessness or staleness. The morning’s play was languorous. Hassett and Brown continued after lunch. Then, after a stay of 115 minutes, Hassett touched a ball from Hammond and it trickled on to his off stump and just dislodged the bail. Brown continued soundly and spent half an hour getting four runs. His 50 was completed in two hours. He was a model of stroke production if not of enterprise. Waite was not altogether comfortable, but he played occasional good strokes. Brown scored more briskly after tea till an excellent ball from Wood bowled him. He batted for 160 minutes, and hit two fours. Stainton and John Langridge, opening for Sussex, scored quickly, and played out time, despite four bowlers being tried. They were especially confident against McCormick. Details: — AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
