BIG WAR GUNS

GERMANY’S MILITARY PARADE. FOREIGN OBSERVERS SURPRISED. . UNPRECEDENTED SIZE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 26, 9.55 a.m. LOIN DON , Aug. 25.

The British United Press correspondent in Berlin reports that Admiral Horthy (Regent of Hungary), accompanied by Herr Hitler, witnessed the biggest military parade ever held in Germany since the war.

Sixty-ono thousand troops participated and the 308 guns included some which were seen for the first time in public and whose size visibly surprised foreign military attaches. The new weapons which had never been paraded before included doublebarrelled machine-guns, Sin. mortars, an extra heavy tank equipped with grating on top to assist in bursting through obstructions, and a dozen long-barrelled siege guns of unknown calibre with portable platforms from which they arc fired. The other equipment, all drawn by tractors, occupied half a mile of the procession. . EFFICIENT ARMY.

The Times and Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondents agree on the extraordinary efficiency of the German Army as revealed in the parade before Admiral Horthy. The Telegraph says that militaryobservers were astonished. The Times regards the steadiness and smartness of the troops as “fully equal to the old Imperial Army, which is especially remarkable as none have served for over two years.”
