HUGE SUM TAKEN
BANK CLERK GAOLED. BRISBANE, Aug. 25. Pleading guilty to the theft of £69,105 belonging to the National Bank of Australasia, Cecil Roberts Trotman Foote, a bank clerk, aged 37, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. The Crown Prosecutor told the Court that Foote once had waged £9BOO in one day on 51 horses all over Australia. His biggest betting loss in one day was £5700.
■ At the original hearing on June 28 the police said that Foote admitted he had paid about £50,000 to one bookmaker and between £15,000 and£2o,ooo to another.
