LOYALISTS FALL BACK
PITILESS BOMBARDMENT. MORE SAVAGE FIGHTING. BATTLE IN SPAIN. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—C'epvrieht 1 Received August 26, 10.30 a.m. , (Times Cables.) LONDON, Aug. 25. The Times Saragossa correspondent says that tlie Catalonian Army is falling back on the Ebro front under a pitiless aerial and artillery bombardment.
The leaders appear to have given up hope of success on the right bank of the Ebro, but, despite savage fighting and thousands of casualties, neither side can claim the decision. The Government troops are showing less tendency to pailic than formerly.
AMBASSADOR FIRED ON
INCIDENT IN SPAIN.
Received August 26, 9.55 a.m. ST. JEAN DE LUZ, Aug. 25.
It is disclosed that while the Italian Ambassador to Nationalist Spain was motoring to San Sebastian at night time on Monday, the police called the car to halt. The chauffeur disobeyed. and the police, not realising that it was a diplomatic car, fired, wounding the Ambassador’s wife. The Ambassador was unhurt.
BOMBING RAID.
WOMEN AMONG CASUALTIES
Received August 26, 10.35 a.m. BARCELONA, Aug. 25. Junkers, ’planes bombed several coastal towns to-day. The casualties were mostly women and children.
