RANFURLY SHIELD HELD.
SOUTH CANTERBURY FAILS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Aug. 24. Otago withstood its second challenge for the Jlanfurly Shield, to-day, when it beat South Canterbury by 27 points to 16. The Otago score was ocmposed of two penalty goals by Taylor, two Eotted goals by Trevatlian, and tries y McLelland, Parkhill, and Taylor, one being converted by Taylor and one by Travatlian. Morrison registered all the points scored for his side, kicking four penalty goals and also a field goal. The game was marked by solid encounters between the forwards, but the back play on both sides lacked finish. At half-time Otago were leading by 17 points to 6.
