WIN FOR WAIRARAPA.

A CLOSE GAME. The second game between Wairarapa and Wellington was keenly contested, but Wairarapa had the more enterprising backs and won by 12 points to 6. The teams were : Wairarapa.—Rewi, Veale, Beales, Shepherd, McLeod, Golder, Couch, O’Shea, Trilford, Davey, O’Keefe, Oliver, Broughton, Te Tau, Goodin. Wellington.—Nash, Davev, Greer, Scrimshaw, Muir, Erskine, Gray, Andrews, Troy, Watson, Watts, Chandler, Chamberlain, Richards, Hellabv. Play was even in the early stages, the handling on the part of both teams being faulty. Wairarapa broke away and McLeod secured to pass to Beales, who scored. Veale failed to convert. Wellington pressed, but the defences could not be penetrated and the Wairarapa forwards broke away with the ball at toe. There was a scramble on the line and Te Tjhi scored. Wairarapa maintained the upper hand and from a line-out 10 yards from the line Goodin gained possession and forced his way over. Crouch was playing a good game behind the Wairarapa scrum and he took his side to the Wellington twenty-five. The defence was equal to the occasion, however,■ for some time; then Couch sent his backs away for McLeod .to cut in and score under the posts. Veale missed an easy kick. For the remainder of Jhe game play was of an even nature and at the final whistle the score was : Wairarapa 12, Wellington 6. ' Mr J. Waugh refereed.
