QUAINT OYSTER SHOP.
BRIGHTON IDENTITY DEAD. LONDON, Aug. 6. Many Dominion visitors will have memories of Brighton’s most famous oyster merchant, Mr Alfred English, who died this week at the age of 77. People from all over the world knew him. When they came to this country tliev made the pilgrimage to the quaint old shop, set hack from the busy rush of East Street, where Mr English lived for 55 years. At the door countless feet have worn the step Sin below its original level. Politicians (including several members of the present Cabinet), peers, financiers, actors and actresses, and sporting celebrities were visitors. One customer —the Dowager Lady Sackville (famous Edwardian hostess) loved the little shop so much that she gave directions for her ashes to, be taken there for a brief time after her cremation.
