“RUTHLESS BATTING”

ENGLAND ON TOP. PRAISE OF CRITICS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) , v - Received August 25, 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. The Australian Associated Press, in further comment on the Test, says: Not repeating their failure to drive, home their advantages at Nottingham and/ Lord’s, England, with ruthless batting, had gone well towards a win on Saturday and achieved a position on Monday, which Australia, even with Bradman, could not hope to assail. , Mr R. E. S. Wyatt, writing in the Daily Mail, says: “The result proves England to he every bit as good as Australia. My opinion is that, taken all round, our cricket is better. Had Hutton and Leyland been available at Leeds, we would probably have won the rubber.” . , Mr Charles Bray, writing in the Daily Herald, says: “While the end ol this timeless Test was disappointing and almost ridiculous, at least it produced the result that the better team won. If it had been limited it would have petered out in a " draw,.which would have been even more ridiculous in view 1 of the magnificence of the English batting. It would have teen a travesty had this Australian team won the rubber. It is questionable whether Bradman’s greatness is wholly good for Australian Test cricket. 1 believe that Australia would have won only one match in which he did not score a century. There is every reason to believe that the Australian supremacy has ended and the Ashes will return to England for a long period.”
