HELP FOR TERRORISTS.

FROM SYRIAN ARABS. (Times Cables.) LONDON, Aug. 22. The Geneva correspondent of the Times says that the minutes of the last meeting of the Mandates Commission state that there is clear evidence that Syrian Arabs are assisting the Palestinian terrorists, but there is no conclusive proof of help from farther afield. Most of the rifles seized, however, have been German Mausers of the 1937 pattern, while recently small quantities of new German ammunition have been seized in Syria and Palestine.

The entire Arab population of Syria and Lebanon sympathises with the Palestinian Arabs and has assisted the gangsters’ arms smugglers in crossing the frontier.

The Mauser rifle is a rifle used for both military and sporting purposes, invented by Paul Mauser, a German mechanic. The German Government equipped their army with the rifle in 1872 and have retained it ever since.
