MR. HUGHES’S NEW RECORD
NEW YORK, Aug. 20.
Mr Howard Hughes, the millionaire aviator and round-the-world flier, landed here to-day at 8.56 a.m., having set up a new trans-continental record for a commercial ’plane of 10 hours 35 minutes 50 seconds. He took off from Los Angeles at 6.21 p.m. yesterday. Mr Hughes is co-operating with the Mayo Foundation in testing a substrathospliere ultra-light oxygen mask. He plans several trans-continental flights six miles up, disregarding the weather.
