ST. PAUL’S CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of St. . Paul’s Presbyterian Church was held on Thursday evening, following a tea in the Sunday school hall, at which the office-bearers and their wives were , entertained. The retirement of Rev. G. Budd from the office of home mission superintendent, which he has held for many years, coupled with the fact that he was minister of St. Paul’s for ten years, gave the impetus for an invitation to address the meeting. Mr Budd kindly agreed and, with Mrs Budd and Mr and Mrs Arthur Budd, of Palmerston North, was the guests of the evening. The proceedings opened with devotional exercises and welcome to the visitors by Rev. A. L. Dixon, who said Mr Budd came to Feilding about 32 years ago and in a ministry of ten years had left a name very deeply engraved on the hearts of the people. Mr Budd had also won a unique name in making the history of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church as superintendent of home missions. One of the foundation members of the .Feilding P.W.M.U.’ presented Mrs Budd with a posy and recalled that Mrs Budd was the first president of the P.W.M.U. The session clerk moved .the adoption of the session report and said ne was very pleased to see the activity in the Bible classes. The management

committee’s report was moved by Mr Svendsen and approved. Presenting the balance-sheet, Mr 0. Aldis (treasurer) said it demonstrated that it 'needed very little more effort to raise as much money as was spent. He made an appeal for more interest in the envelope system, undoubtedly the finest method of church finance there was. A small number of members were responsible for a very considerable part of the revenue. After all, said Mr Aldis, what one got out of the Church depended largely on what one contributed to its life and progress. “Try the experiment,” Mr Aldis said, “of each Presbyterian making a point of attending church at least once a Sunday and note the effect.” Reference was made to the kindly thought that prompted Mr Frank Mason, of Sandnn Road, to present the church with sufficient roses to plant the'newly created plot. This fine gift was much appreciated, the meeting expressing thanks with acclamation to Mr Mason.

The Moderator expressed appreciation of the work of the treasurer and the assistance he was to him personally in his work. The election of managers resulted: —Messrs D. N. Fergusson, T. K. Hav, W. L. Kendal], S. D. Leitcli, Dr W. Maclaurin, A. E. Matheson, N. Peat. D. P. Pryde, J. J. Sandbrook, J. WStewart, Duncan, McFarland and A. V. Svendsen.

Proceedings terminated with supper and a stirring address by Mr Budd. the pronouncing the Benediction and the singing of the Doxology. Vocal items were given by Mrs A. E. Dewe, Mr A. Budd and Mr Barlowe. Mrs Barlowe *pl a yed the accompaniments.
