FALL OF SNOW.

FEILDING’S EXPERIENCE. A bitterly cold day, with a wind blowing off the hills, yesterday culminated in a fall of snow in the evening. The snow commenced to fall between 5 and 6 o'clock, and continued for several hours. Though cold, the weather lost its sting when the fall started. The snow was not heavy enough to cover the gfound, but where it could accumulate it was about an inch deep. Residents who have been in Feilding many years state that it is about twenty years since snow was experienced here. On occasion there had been a sleety snow, so that last evening’s experience was somewhat unique for Feilding and the novelty caused mild excitement on the part of adults and unbounded enthusiasm on the part of the younger section of the community. The fall of snow at Waituna last evening was fairly heavy, and this morning the ground was covered to a depth of two inches. Old residents in Feilding state that it is not unusual to up Kimbolton Road and see the hills above Cheltenham covered in snow, but to look up Manchester Street and see the snow low down on the hills in the direction of Ashhurst is a most uncommon sight. Mr F. Mason, Sanson Rond, Feilding, informed a “Standard” representative that the temperature fell last evening to 30 degrees, but this morning at 9 o’clock the reading was 38 degrees. At 11 a.m. it had improved to 42 degrees, while by midday it had risen to 45 degrees. Mr Mason said he remembered a similar fall of snow in Feilding 21 years ago.
