THE CHINESE STRIFE

MARSHAL KAI-SHEK’S DESIRE

HONG KONG, July 1. The presence of the British, German and Italian Ambassadors and the Swedish and Swiss Ministers continues as the basis for a rumour of mediation or a loan.

In a statement on the position, Marshal Chiang Kai-shek said:— “China does not welcome British or other mediation unless it restores Chinese sovereignty.” A Tokio message says the Foreign Office has received information of Soviet assistance and munitions credit to China.
