BUDGE AGAIN WINS

In the final of the men’s singles at Wimbledon, to-day, J. D. Budge (U.S.A.) was in devastating form, and H. W. Austin (Britain), despite his pluck and resource, was often unable to get within yards of Budge’s whizzing drives. Budge won 14 games on end till Austin broke through the American’s service in the third set. Results : MEN’S SINGLES. (Holder, J. D. Budge, U.S.A.) Final. J. D. Budge (U.S.A.) beat IT. W. Andrus and Mdlle Henrotin (France), 3 —G, o—3, C—4. Mrs' Fabyan and Miss Marble (U.S.A.) beat Mrs Heine-Miller (South Africa) and Miss Morphew, 7—5, 6-4. MEN’S DOUBLES. (Holders, J. D. Budge and C. Budge and Miss Marble (U.S.A.) beat Snayes and Miss / Saunders (Britain), 6 —4, 6—2. Henkel (Germany) and Mrs Fabyan (U.S.) beat Russell and Miss James (Britain), 6 —3, I—6, 6 —3.

Suzanne Lenglen, former woman tennis champion, is slightly better, hut her condition is still serious. It was reported previously that Mdlle. Lenglen was suffering from severe anaemia. DAVIS CUP“MATCHES. TO BE HELD ANNUALLY. LONDON, June 30. At a meeting of representatives of the Davis Cup nations the proposal to hold a biennial instead of an annual competition was defeated by 14 votes to 7.
