NEWBURY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, June 25. Tho annual meeting of the Awahuri branch of the National Party was bold in the hall;'there were over 40 present. Mr J. ChectKam presided. Also present was Mr 11. A. Stewart (secretary). The meeting was most enthusiastic and it was decided that all present be added to the committee with power to add, and ako to form a ladies’ committee. At the Newbury. Women’s . Institute meeting there was a good attendance. Mrs Shaw presided and expressed pleasure at seeing so many present. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Purton, J. Linnklater, M. Hansen. M. Baker, C. Payne, N. Wood and C. H. Thompson. The competition for pincnecdle work was won by Mrs J. Lancaster and the. best flower from the garden resulted: Mrs J. Cheetham 1, Mrs 11. Lovelock 2, Mrs F. Verrv 3. Tho competition for next month will bo the best four pieces of shortbread and best flower. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames W. Penberthy and J. Macauley. Tho hostesses for next month will be Mesdames F. Verry and’ N. Wood. Mr and Mrs S. Morris are spending a holiday in Wanganui. Mr H. Linklater, who has been on a holiday of : some months, has returned. Mr and Mrs C. H. Thompson arc Spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr and Mrs- : M. Hansen have been on a visit to New Plymouth, whore Mr HaanSon was a delegate to the Dairy. Conference. Mr S. Death was also a delegate to the conference. Mrs J. Linklater has returned home after visiting Now Plymouth. Tho friends of Mr' Burbury will regret 'to learn that he is ill again, and it iw hoped there wilt.be an improvement: in his health a: an early date. A welcome home is extended to Mr and Mrs S: Knight, who have been on holiday in Australia.
