PRAISE FOR NELSON
HON. W. NASH’S VISIT. Per Press Association. / ‘ NELSON, June 25. Hon. AV. Nash, Minister of Finance, was accorded a civic reception this morning, there being a very large and representative attendance. The Mayor (Mr Paget thanked the Government for its interest in. the development of Nelson’s industries and resources. Mr Nash expressed the hope • that Onek'aka would become one of New Zealand’s valuable assets of the fu- , ture.* The tobacco industry was only in its infancy and his knowledge of its quality, based on the opinions of manufacturers in England, showed that Nelson could produce a quality of leaf that would compare favourably with that of any other country, with good prospects for greater development. The Nelson district had a definite productive value for j foodstuffs, and it was the desire of the Government to give every encouragement to those who were producing food for the people of the Dominion and other parts of the British Commonwealth. The Minister later laid the foundation stone of a new Government build-. ing.
