MONTHLY MEETING. / - Tlie monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council was held this week, Cr L. T. McLean presiding-. Also present were: Crs. W. P. Shaw, J. H. Williamson F. E. Tappin,' ,D. T. Couper W. G. Clapliam A. E. Shannon, A. S. D’Ath, and D. Stent. A letter was received from the district engineer, Public Works Department, requesting to be advised as early as possible of the council’s nominee for the District Highways Council for the ensuing period:—Cr Lean was appointed. The district engineer, Public Works Department, wrote with reference to the main highway annual estimates, 1938-39, and requesting the return of the application schedules, duly completed, not later than May 16, 1938.—The information was supplied. Another letter was received from the district engineer. Public Works Department, regarding the annual review of main highways, Nos. 9, and 10 Highways Districts, and requesting that any applications for roads to be declared main highways be forwarded not later than May 16, 1938. —It was stated that applications had been made to the department. The district engineer also wrote with reference to the Public Works Estimates, 1938-39, and requesting the return of the application schedules, not later than June 15, 1938. —To be attended to. The managing-secretary of the Palmerston North Hospit&l Board, forwarded the board’s financial estimates for 1938-39.—Received. Mr T. Henshaw wrote requesting the council to widen the corners on the lower section of Terrace Road. — The matter was held over pending an inspection by v the councillor for the riding and. the county overseer, who will report to the council. BANK BALANCES. The position of the council’s balances at the bank as at the close of business on May 24, .1938, was reported 'to be as follows County Fund Account, cr., £291 18s 2d,; Employees Accommodation, Special Loan, cr., £376 15s sd; Kimbolton Cemetery Account, cr., £4 8s lOd; land fund account, cr., £l4B 16s; Rangiwahia Cemeterv account, cr., £7. 11s 8d; Waituna Cemetery account, cr., £9 9s 3d. STATEMENT OF RATES. The clerk (Mr W- L. Hesseltine) stated that the position in regard to rates collected, etc., was as follows. —General, 1937-38: Paid, £4 5s 4d; outstanding to date, £123 17s 3d. Special rates, 1937-38 paid, ,£1 18® 4d, outstanding, £43 11s 9d. Hospital rate 1937-38: Paid. £1 10s 2d; outstanding, £54 7s lid. Arrears, two years: General, psid, £2O Js ocl; outstanding, £144 11s 10d. Specials, paid /£5 12s 7d; outstanding, £66 Is Id. Hospital, paid, £8 4s sd; 'outstanding, £63 8s 4d.
