r ; cRUAHINE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING: The sixth annual meeting.of the Ruahine Tramping Club was held last evening, Mr L. Thorne presiding over an attendance of . about 30 members. Mr Thorne expressed his pleasure at the large muster of members. . . ... The report, together with the bal-ance-sheet, was adopted. , The report stated:— “At the close of the year Miss *G. Preeling resigned from the committee, having taken a position in YVellington, and it was thought unnecessary to make a reappointment. The year/has been a very busy one for the committee and it ia to its credit that it has discharged its duties in a,very able manner,” stafes the report. “The membership ha 6 been well maintained-'and now stands at 73, an increase ofltwo. AiJr predation of the services to the club go to all committee members, who have not spared themselves, to the secretary, Mr K. Ta.rr; social secretary, Mr R. Tilson, both of whom have worked unceasingly ; to the custodian, Mr E.. Collinson; librarian. Mr 1,. Durrant;.* and auditor, Mr D. Roche, for their willing co-operation. The usual high standard of tramps was maintained, o.nlv two being cancelled out of a total of 25 fixtures. It is pleasing to note the increased support of week-end trips: The average membership perjtrip was 19. “The balance-sheet shows that the club is in a very healthy position and. although we are ■ holding les6 actual cash than last year, purchases of timber and iron for the new , hut have been made, and it will not be long ere members will be able to say that they own'' a hut. The decision to build, a hut was made at an extraordinary general meeting. The members present were unanimous in the selection of the site. Howlett’6 Camp, situated in the Ruahine Ranges, a few miles from Ashley Clintion and amongst some of the finest tramping country in the North Island/,with plenty of excellent bush and' river scenery. Many round trips are possible, also a number of fine peaks over 5000 ft can be climbed from this central position. A start was made at Easter, and the majority :of timber and’iron was transported to the slab hut ill the Tuki. Tuki River. , Since then, however, Tittle progress has) been made owing to Continuous . heavy rains in Hawke’s/Baly. “The'annual, sports . meeting (gwas again a success, our members /by/’ ,a very small margin, .retaining-the?R.uU-liine Trophy, We / congratulate :/the Manawatu Club for the sporting 'manner in which they, organise this outing each year. Ski-ing is - proving most popular, and already skis, are being made, waxed, oiled and generally put in order for the coming season. Several week-end trips - to the Chateau were made, and capacity loads taken on each occasion. An enjoyable week-end was spent at Stratford House (Mount Egmont) in September, when two char-a-bancs were required. We wish to place on record appreciation of the, fine efforts/.? of leaders who are in no small .measgre responsible for the success of: Hie" club. Especially would we thank,/Messrs Durrant, A. Zienart: A. Klink, and R. Templeton for leading ..tliev ' :Egmprit, Palliser Bay and .-Cape Kidnappers trips, respectively. A great' number of kindred club magazines and bulletins have been received and are available to all members.. We wish to tlninlc all clubs for their receipt. Our thanks are also due to Mr Stuart, who is so kind as to allow us space m his shop for our library. ; j “We wish to extend aporeciation to Dr Yeates, Messrs A. M. Lascelles, and F. Steinmuller and the Heretaunga Tramping Club, for generous donations during the year, the latter being .towards our new hut.... An honorarium of £1 10s w r as voted the retiring secretary (Mr K. 0.. Tarr). No change in the subscription was made, it being resolved that it be left the same as last year, i:e.,.7s 6d per annum for men and 5s for women./
