HORSE BREEDING
GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 26, Reference to the Government proposals for the encouragement of the breeding of horses was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) when he attended a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union ,at Wellington to-day. Mr Parry said that when he took office he deplored the fact that in New Zealand horse-breeding was going by the board. It appeared there was a dire need for a movement to encourage farmers to breed horses of a good type. He had suggested that New Zealand ought to try to import a class of stallion suitable for breeding horses. Replying to a question, the Minister said a hunter was a great, horse for ordinary purposes and-for recreation in ■farming communities. Hunt clubs’ rights and interests would be protected. There was no reason, he said, why the measures proposed should not be extended to’ cover every form of horse that New Zealand wanted. What was wanted was a utility horse. There was no limit to the scheme.
