MINISTER’S FURTHER STATEMENT.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 21. “All 1 said 1 still stand by,” said the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. I. Armstrong) when asked to comment to-day on the statement by the general secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation (Mr M. R. O'Shea) relating to the shortening of staffs in the manufacturing clothing trade. In his statement, Mr O Shea said that the Minister, in Ids earlier comment on the position, had accused employers of dismissing workers in order to make a stronger impression on the Government. The position was exactly the opposite of that stated by the Minister, Mr O’Shea added. “I said that in some case manufactures’ difficulties were sometimes caused by inefficient management or over-capitalisation of the industry, oi both,” Mr Armstrong said m a further statement to-day. “I did not apply that statement to this particular case because I do not know the posi*M"r Armstrong said lie could quite understand Mr O’Shea making the statement be bad done. “That is Ins job,” he said.
