THE FEILDING PLAN. REPORT TO LABOUR CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 21. The Labour Party Conference sitting at Wellington to-day devoted much time to the report of a special committee set up to consider remits bearing on education and health. The Minister of Education (Hon. P. Fraser), who is also Minister of Health, was present during the presentation of the report and addressed the delegates. The committee recommended that the principle of necessary financial assistance of students be extended as opportunity permitted in 1939. The committee supported a recommendation that the Minister of Education be asked to enter into discussions with representatives of the teachers with a view to the elimination of corporal punishment in all schools. Referring to adult education, the report stated: “A Council for Adult Education has now been set up and the committee recommends that suggestions in the remits be passed on to the Minister to be discussed with that body. An important experiment in adult education is about to be embarked on at Feilding Agricultural High School. It will be conducted by the principal, Mr L. J. Wild, M.A., and Mr H. D. Somerset, of Oxford, Canterbury. The country library scheme, which will form an important part of adult education, has been inaugurated. The Government "is generally assisting adult education to a greater extent than has ever been Jone before, and great development is contemplated for the future. The committee request all delegates to support adult education schemes to the best of their ability/’ A recommendation that definite status be given chiropractors and that their services be made available to hospital patients was approved.
