WOOL MARKET
CLOSING OF SEASON. THE WELLINGTON SALE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 22. The 1937-38 series of wool sales closed to-day with the Wellington sale. An offering of 18,200 bales was submitted to a good bench of buyers, who were representative of all important manufacturing countries. Competition was keen. The value of the wool, taking its description and character into account, was a little lower than in March. Buyers generally appeared to be subject to restricted limits, although they showed eagerness to get the wool they required. Up to 11 o’clock the market was down ou the rates ruling on March 22 by a farthing to a halfpenny a pound. For finer wools, values were about on a level with March, and generally the market was on a par with that of the Dunedin sale. Early in the sale good crossbreds made from 9sd to 101 d and fine crossbred, but containing seed, 10(1 to 10^d; but if with no seed it commanded llil up to 12d for fine quality. For a few attractive lines of such fine wools 12d to 12id was paid. Lambs’ wool was in good demand, but a fair amount of seed was showing in many of the lots. The price for lambs’ wool was between 9£d and 10id for good lines, and 8d to 9d for those showing much seed, but some business was done at 6fd to 7}d. Bellies and pieces commanded strong competition at 7d to 83 d. Crutehings sold at 61 d to 81d, and locks at 5d to 6d. A lino of thirteen bales of Rylands brought llfd.
