GIANT FISH.

SPECIMEN FOUND IN SCOTLAND. Received April 22, 1.10 p.m. LONDON, April 21. A giant fish, which was found on the rocks at Carnoustie, Scotland, has been identified as an oar fish, of which only 25 specimens have been discovered on the coast of Britain this century. Its length is 17ft lOin and its maximum -girth 2ft l^in. An official of the Natural History Museum, whither the fish has been entrained, says that previous specimens were mutilated and consequently parte of the anatomy were unknown. It is hoped that much will bo learned from the new specimen. The onr fish has a dorsal fin ending like a mane over its head, the whole being a bright scarlet. The oar-fish is generally found in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North Sea, says an authority. The compressed, elongated, and scaleless body may he as much as 20ft long, with a small mouth, and a dorsal fin that extends from behind the head to the imperfect tail. The first few rays of this fin arc very long, with dilated tips, forming a conspicuous crest. The name was suggested by the long, slender fins expanded at their extremity.
