CHALLENGE TO MAYOR.
REPLY TO MR CHRISTENSEN. In reference to a challenge issued by Mr V. A. Christensen, Labour candidate for the Mayoralty, to the Mayor, Mr A E. Mansford, contained in an advertisement in this issue of the “Standard,” to discuss, at a date and place to be mutually arranged, the evi deuce of the gas enquiry and to prove , (]) That the council’s subsequent ac- ! tions are justified by the council and ’ (2) that the Mayor’s actions in this I connection merit a continued eon- ' fidenee of the electors, the Mayor this 1 morning made the following statement: “Mr Christensen knows that the evidence is private ,and confidential and lie is not supposed to have it as a matter of fact. That evidence is not ! f or public discussion at all and lie knows quite well that lie is on quite sale ground when lie makes a challenge of that description. The electors ■will be more interested in hearing the I Labour Party’s policy than empty chalj lenges.”
