HALCOMBE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HALCOMBE, April 20. There was only a fair attendance at the Apri.l meeting of the Women’s Institute, which was presided over by Mrs W. Davies. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdamcs Brett and Alilos and Misses Field. One new member was enrolled. Visitors, including Mrs W. Stewart, a popular ex-inember, were welcomed. Mrs C. Managh was heartily thanked for a gift of teaspoons. A demonstration on sweetmaking by Mrs Curtis proved to be not only interesting and instructive, but also remunerative. The competitions resulted: Cookery, Mrs L. Davies 1, Mbs 0. Fergusson 2, and Miss E. Fergusson 3; needlework, Airs N. Anderson 1, Miss O. Fergusson 2, Mrs L. Davies 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdamcs D. Managh, J. O’Sullivan and Miss 0. Fergusson. The rain which fell during Easter has had a wonderful effect on the condition of the golf links. The fairways are in great order and the lawn grass planted on the greens is springing thickly. As soon as the grass is established sufficiently to permit of being mowed the course should be second to none in the district. A stableford bogey competition will be played on Sunday. There was a good attendance at the-Na-tional Party meeting held on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr R. C. Hamilton, was in the chair. A finance committee comprising Messrs B. Shorty R. C. Hamilton, E. Christian,' J. Morrison, E. W Barnett, T. Vile, W. S. Pago, W. McLennan, J. H. Blundcn, I. .McLennan. J: E. Fergusson, A. McNae, A. Wisclmowsky, I,’ Fergusson, R. J. Managh, W.
