PAHIATUA, April 20. The late Mr A. McEwcn Mason, of Paliiatua, whose death took place in Wellington, was aged 54. He served in the Boer War, and also enlisted for service in the Great War, but owing to illness ini camp lie was unable to leave with the Reinforcements. He is survived by his widow and two children. The induction of Rev. \Y. E. Moore took place in the Methodist Church. Rev. H. J. Odell, of Napier, conducted the ceremony, assisted by Rev. T. Coateworth, of Woodville.' Mr J. J. Boagey introduced the now minister to the congregation, which was a large one. A Young Farmers’ Club has been formed at Nireaha. The usual Easter Monday dance was held bv the Oddfellows’ Lodge at Alangatainoka". The Monte Carlo competition was won by Miss E. Ghockley and Mr B. Raynaul. The lucky spot was awarded to Miss J. A number ot competitions took place at the monthly meeting, the winners being Mcsdames Clark, Vincent and P. Bissett, and Miss N. Ktz. The hostesses were Mcsdames J. D Wilson. T. Colter, and J. D. Thomson. A demonstration of quilting was given by Miss Cole. , -.t , • Mr and Mrs Keith Eglmton, of Ngatuii, have been visiting Wellington. Mr and Mrs G. Godfrey Taylor are on a visit to Auckland. Mr R. Mcrric and Miss Memo have returned from a visit to Sydney. Mr R. Newman, of Auckland, has been trailsferred to the local Post Office-. Mrs V. Wilton lias been spending a holiday at Martinborough. Mrs J Swanney has returned from Hamilton. Mr ami Mrs A. D. Donald arc on a- visit to Rotorua. Air and Mrs J. G. James, of Wanganui, have been the guests of Mrs M. Beech. Mr and Airs T. Webb and Mr A. E. Eising, of Palmerston North, have been staying with Mr and Airs Eising, of Makomako. Mr J. W. Sturton, an old member of the Borough Council, has decided to contest the mayoralty. Mr J. D. Wilson, the present Alayor, who lias filled the position for many years, lias intimated that in all probability he will not seek rc-clcotion.
