MANAWATU SENIOR CONTEST. INTERESTING STAGE REACHED. With only one more series of matches to be played in the Manawatu Cricket Association’s senior A competition the issue remains in doubt. Prior to the completion of Saturday’s games Old Boys were leading both Palmerston North and City by a margin of eight points, but, securing a six-point win over City on Saturday, they are left with only Palmerston to contend with. The latter gained an eight-point win over Y.M.C.A., thus Old Boys now lead by only six points. The senior A game between United and High School, which had no bearing on the championship, was won by United by a margin of 56 runs. Much interest centred in the senior B match between Kia Toa and Combined Services, a win for the latter bringing the teams equal for championship honours. This was accomplished by a margin, of 14 runs, and iionours are now even. In the other senior B game Y.M.C.A. defeated United.
In the junior A competition Combined Services beat High School and Optimists beat Old Boys. These two winners are equal for second round honours and. having decided the issue, will play off with Old Boys (first round winners).
