JAPANESE REPELLED.
BITTER RESISTANCE. HANKOW, March 18. Six thousand Japanese, bitterly resisted by the Chinese, have not succeeded in encircling Tenghsien. Other Japanese efforts to capture villages east of the Yi River failed. The Japanese have retreated from Maotsintu and Pinglu on the north bank of the Yellow River.
