BOWLING
, HAWKE’S BAY’S VISIT. WIN FOR MANAWATU. Ten rinks representing the Hawke’s Bay Bowling Centre visited Palmerston North on Saturday and, after a series of unofficial games with city clubs in the morning, played an intercentre match with Manawatu at the Northern green in the afternoon. Manawatu won an enjoyable match by 223 points to 210. Mr J„ A. Nash, president of tho Manawatu Centre, extended a cordial welcoiAe to the visitors, referring to the fact that when Manawatu had earlier in the season visited Hawke’s Bay, the latter had promised to make a return visit, and he was very glad that they had been able to fulfil this undertaking. It was a special pleasure, added Mr Nash, to welcome the president of tho Hawke’s Bay Centre, Mr AV. Ross, a former Palmerstonian who had attended the recent jubilee celebrations of this city, and who had in earlier years been engaged in the business of Messrs Stratford and Bett and was now a businessman in Hawke’s Bay.
Cheers were then exchanged and Manawatu sang one of their chanties. Mr Ross, in replying to the welcome, stated that he appreciated the "references made by Mr Nash to his earlier associations with Palmerston North, which he regarded as his home town, and he had been happy to renew former .acquaintanceships. Subsequently, Mr Ross informed a “Standard” reporter that when lie resided in -Palmerston North tho playing areas now occupied by the Northern Chib were ian Open swampy paddock, and North Street was a very muddy clay road.
