DAY OF PRAYER.

Most denominations mere well represented at the meetings held in the Baptist Church on Friday when the annual women's World Day of Prayer was observed. In the morning a select little company gathered and enjoyed a refreshing season'’of prayer and intercession, the leader being Mrs Page. During the afternoon meeting a programme was followed which had been compiled by Miss Henderson, of Christchurch, a retired missionary of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Stuart Wright led the first half of the afternoon session, during which she gave an interesting summary of

what was taking place all over the world among women who were observing the day of orayer also. She stated that it was originally started by a group of six women in America who decided to meet once a month to pray for world peace, for missionary, welfare and educational work of all the churches throughout the world, and for a unity and concord between all Christian communities. Thus from this small band, meeting once a month a world-wide movement has sprung. Mrs C. E. Taylor led the second part of the meeting ,at the conclusion of which a very appropriate solo was sung by Mrs Gill, thus ending an observance of world-wide significance.
