LABOUR PARTY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the I'eilding branch of the Labour Party states, inter alia: —Progress has been acconp plished '(under the benign and paternal watchfulness of our Labour Government toward the goal of our ideal .and the betterment of conditions for the people of New Zealand. Some lew months ago the electoral boundaries were revised, and due to this fact the one in which we reside, known as Oroua, will shortly be abolished. This at first looked to be detrimental to our interests. However, with our inclusion in the electorate of .Manawatu, together with the wholehearted help and co-operation of our now resident Parliamentary member, Mr O. L. Hunter, and Mrs Hunter, our chances have assumed a bright prospect, and I confidently predict that at the next election we will win this seat for Labour. As a branch we have been very active, especially so during the latter part of the year. I wish to convey- my thanks to the officers of the branch, to the various committees set up for the purpose of furthering interests, my admiration and special thanks to the wonderful and hardworking ladies’ committee, also my gratitude to the many non-member friends who were so willing and obliging in giving us a helping hand in many’ ways. I wish to make special mention of my obligation to our very efficient secretary, Mr Geo. Slmpleski, and to commend him on the manner in which he has carried out his numerous duties; and also to Mr A. K. Petty, who assisted us in the capacity of deputy-secretary during part of the year. We have endeavoured to obtain Cabinet Ministers to address an audience in Eeilding, but without success. Visiting speakers in the persons of Mr Moncur, M.P.. Mr J. Lyon, M. Mrs Lee, and Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., have had successful meetings throughout the district. 1 believe that Mr Hunter will be more accomplished in angling after speakers of Ministerial rank. Regular meetings of the branch and executive have been held; 1 am sorry to say that the at-

tendance at genera: meetings lias been on tlie whole only fair, and a great er-| fort must be made to improve this, ine - same is to be said of the financial membership. I sincerely trust that m the coming year a big improvement will take place in respect to these two important matters. I beg to remind members of the importance ot making their contributions to the Campaign fund. We have for this purpose, together with all branches throughout the Dominion, decided voluntarily on a levy on ail members of the sum of , and 'have obtained a quantity of subscription cards tor this purpose which will he issued to members oil application to the secretary, the idea being that persons may make weekly contributions of small amounts, these to be entered on their subscription list, and in this manner making as light as possible their donation to the lighting fund which is so urgently required. L recommend this matter to your most earnest consideration.” i j
