Many annual weeds can be got rid of and much good can be ‘done by keeping land clean by cultivation of the stubble immediately after harvest. In many cases stubble land is left more or less idle for some time after harvest and becomes a suitable place for the seeding of many annual weeds. In some places the stubble is ploughed soon after harvest and in other cases it is harrowed. Under this treatment weed plants are disturbed and prevented from seeding. Weed seeds in the soil germinate readily after cultivation and can be killed by subsequent working.—Journal of Agriculture.
