ELECTION THIS YEAR.
SOUTH AFRICAN PARLIAMENT. JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 14. In spite of every effort to hasten preparations for the general election this year, the Government is finding it difficult to get the public service machine to work any faster than it is doing. Had there been any possibility of the new electoral rolls on which the general election is to be fought. being ready early this year, the provisional general election date early in J une might have been revised. It is now learned, however, that there is very little likelihood of these rolls being ready even by the end of May and in the circumstances it is expected that the election will not be held until June. The date of the election does not depend on the Parliamentary session, which, in any event, is not expected to last longer than seven weeks. Ihe Government has not yet considered the date of the election.
