The weather was fine, there was a record crowd and the course was in perfect order. For the Herrios Cup there were 16 starters, and it was an excellent race with an exciting finish. Stretto ran the 11 furlongs in the good time of 2.17 4-5, wjrich is only about a second outside Glare’s New Zealand record of 2.16:). Having her first race over a middle distance the brilliant Stretto scored a notable triumph. After showing out in front early, Stretto was steadied in behind the loading division and when asked for an effort in the straight she reached the lead quickly to score in very convincing fashion over the last furlong. Kilonsa made a _ determined bid in the straight and registered a fine performance for second. Rona Bay, who was responsible for most of the running, battled on solidly for third. Master Brierly came from the rear at the turn for fourth, making up a lot of ground. SHAFTESBURY HACK HANDICAP, of £275. Six furlongs.
