EARLE STAKES.

WON BY ICING. SPRINT TO NOTIUM. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was brought to a conclusion on Saturday. The weather was fine but dull, with a slight drizzle toward the finish. The track was in good order and fast. Icing won the principal event, the Earle Stakes, in fine style, narrowly beating the favourite, Tiger Gain. The totalisator handled £21,208, against £15,415 10s. The lota] for the mooting was £37,609, against £27,432 10s last year. C. P. Shcild, rider of Tiger Gain in the Earle Stakes, was suspended for a month for interference with The Buzzer. Royal Romance found most support for the Hack Hurdles, but he appeared sore and his saddle slipped early and he never Rooked a likely winner. Lifeguard went away fast, jumping well, and led by twelve lengths passing the stand from Count Wiflony, Riotous and Kentucky Song. Going down the back Lifeguard began to tire and Count Willonyx passing him at the half-mile to lead round the bond into the straight from Riotous, with Lifeguard and Kentucky Song next. Over the final stages Riotous challenged and beat Count Willonyx by a neck. Rqyal Romanco was last. SEDGEBROOK JUVENILE HANDICAP, of £l3O. Five furlongs.

In the run home Russian Ballet went into the lead and drew away to win by ;two lengths from Drachma, who beat Prime Quality by a head, with Footloose a head further back. Approaching the halfmile, Icing improved her position and crossing the top was third in behind I igcr Gain and The Bigot. As they entered the straight Tiger Gain held command with Icing closing I >P, and then came Iho Bigot, Lowenberg and. Middle. Over the final- stages Icing challenged the leader, and thev fought out a great finish. Icing getting the verdict by a neck, with Lowenberg two lengths away third.
