FURTHER FALL IN NOTE ISSUE. STERLING EXCHANGE HIGHER. The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, February 21, is as follows: LIABILITIES.

Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 68.486 per cent, compared with 68,438 per cent on February 14. A further increase of £210,415 in sterling exchange brings the total amount held up to £16,672,604. Gold remains at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin totals £217,476, a decrease of £328. Advances to the Primary Products Marketing Department total £6,259,131, an * increase of £22,389. Advances to the State for other purposes remain unchanged at £1,100,000.

Investments at £2,959,994 are higher by £10,063. Other assets total £llß,655, an increase of £46,046. i A further decrease of £177,637 is shown in the note issue, which amounts to £13,789,755. Demand liabilities to the State total £4,923,468, an increase of £548,170. The trading banks’ reserve balances at £9,374,267, show a decrease of £188,451. Other demand liabilities total £347,772, an increase of £105,114. Other liabilities amount to £194,388, an increase of £I3BB. The statement balances at £30,129,651, an increase of £288,584.
