FIRE BRIGADES.
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. CONTROL OF TRAFFIC. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 21. The Dominion conference of the United Fire Brigades' Association I which opened at New Plymouth to-day, was described by the chairman, Superintendent Bennett, of Nelson, as the most important in the history of the association. Many matters of importance to brigades throughout New Zealand would be dealt with in the next three days. A civic welcome was given this morning when speakers emphasised the great value of volunteer brigades to New Zealand. Mr S. G. Smith. M.P.. stressed that extra Government assistance should be given. Delegates present represent 130 brigades in all parts of the Dominion. A vital matter this morning was the question of control of traffic following fire engines, which was said to be very dangerous and invonvenient, particularly in smaller centres. It was decided! to make representations to the Government for an amendment of the traffic regulations to overcome the danger.
